Step into a realm where traditional meets contemporary at the “Found in Translation” exhibition curated by textile artist Liz Smith.
With experimentation and curiosity Liz has translated the paintings and sculptures of five local artists into tactile pieces, using the techniques of hand tufting and intricate embroideries.

Make flowers from recycled plastic: FREE workshop
Led by jewellery artist Joss Hong, join us to make flowers from recycled plastic bottles. These will decorate a large wooden frame made by a Muriwai local. The frame will be erected in a public area in Muriwai for people to pose behind for photos.
This will hopefully remind the public of Muriwai’s plight, and help raise funds for The Muriwai Community Recovery Charitable Trust https://mcrct.org.nz/
FREE painting workshop with Pat Henley
Led by artist Pat Henley, join us to create FREE painting workshops at the Surf Club. Pat Henley, painter has a great talent using colour, paint and markings.
All ages welcome, all materials supplied. Meet at the Surf Club class room. 10:30am - 12:30pm. The Locals Lounge will also be open.
Muriwai Love Letters
Help us celebrate all the things we love! Join us for the Love Letters event at the Surf Club this Sunday, 5 March 10am-4pm. It’s free and will be lots of fun.
Help us build a wall of love letters, or do some rock painting to pop in the Surf Club garden. Come to the Locals Lounge for a free cuppa, some baking, a catch-up with some mates, plus create your love message.
Simply draw or write a love letter - to someone, a thing, a place or an experience. Anyone can leave a note (love letter). "I love my dog Coco", "I love walking on the beach", "I love Chocolate cake". Once done, peg your letter on the line.

Muriwai Soaring (Parnell) Exhibition
Muriwai goes to the city with the "Muriwai Soaring" contemporary art exhibition.
From Auckland's wild west coast nine Muriwai artists from the Muriwai Open Studios art collective are showcasing artwork at the gallery in The Fantail House, 237 Parnell Road, Parnell Village, 5th - 31st August.

Sand Art - Hands-on Experience

Sand artist Lesley Dixon is delighted to share her skills creating sandcastles, sculptures and sand art drawings. Lesley will hold two interactive sand art sessions suitable for all ages. Please bring a bucket and/or a rake for a fun, creative and inspiring experience. Children - please bring an adult.
Muriwai Arts Group Show
In conjunction with the Open Studios, there is a Muriwai Arts Group Show on at the Muriwai Surf Club.
The 50 + participating artists will be creating original works relating to the theme ‘Leap of Faith’ an act of believing in or attempting something whose existence or outcome cannot be proved or known. Muriwai artists will interpret this theme in a variety of formats.
A huge variety of media will be on show at this year’s exhibition including sculpture, ceramics, painting, print making, weaving, illustration, film, photography and jewelry.
The main Gallery is staged at the Muriwai surf club 100 Jack Butt Lane – an architectural purpose-built community hub that converts into a gallery space for just one weekend every two years. A perfect opportunity to mix nature and art with a walk through the dunes and a visual extravaganza at the Muriwai Arts pop up Gallery.
There will also be a film night on Saturday 22 May - Local Muriwai film makers and technicians showcasing their work.

Eight artists from Muriwai on Auckland’s west coast are “travelling” to Orakei on Auckland’s east coast with their new exhibition “Coast to Coast”.
Inspired by coast and bush these artists have collaborated to create a series of works reflecting the energy of their natural environs and to share their interpretations of the wild coast with their east coast neighbours.

Muriwai Sand Art Maori Bay: Hands-on Experience
Lesley Dixon, sand artist and member of the Muriwai Art Open Studio (MAOS) collective is delighted to share her skills building large sand castles, sculptures and creating sand art drawings at Muriwai Beach, just 30 minutes north west of Auckland. Lesley will be running a free interactive sand art drawing session suitable for all ages on Maori Bay, Muriwai – please bring a bucket and/or rake for a fun, creative and inspiring experience. Come and view the artworks with the option to also enjoy some of the food and drink provided. Artworks are set on the beautiful 13 acre grounds and in the architecturally designed building of Good from Scratch. Sculptor Jeff Thomson and other local artists (mediums include weaving, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, painting, embroidery, mixed media and photography) will have work onsite. Artists Marlon Hart, Toni Tanner, Karuna Douglas and John Mayne will be onsite to chat to you about the artworks.
Founders and owners of Good From Scratch, Mike and Belinda Van de Elzen will offer food prepared onsite with many ingredients picked and gathered from their fabulous spray free gardens, along with a selection of local wines, craft beers and homemade sodas. Only 30 minutes from the CBD, come eat, drink and enjoy the rural views over the sweeping Muriwai valley, while experiencing the art inspired by the energy of this area.
